THE ROLE
As a member of the nursing team, this position works under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse while providing personal care to residents in assigned areas in accordance with individual resident care plans. The position complies with all legislative standards, company policies/procedures and rules/regulations in a professional manner.

· Salary: this is a unionized position. Wage is paid as per the union agreement. The hourly rate for this position will be, at the start $22.97, after completing the probationary period $23.48, after completing a one-year service (1800 hours) and/or experience $23.91 and after completing two-years (3600 hours) service and/or experience $25.02. (Subject to any changes as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement). Additionally, the government supplements be $3 till further notice.
· Terms of employment: Permanent employment, Full time (minimum of 75 hours per Bi-weekly).
Candidates must be available to work any assigned shift including Day, Early Morning, Morning, Evening, Night, Weekend, and Holidays. you shall be entitled to night-shift premium and/or weekend premium.
· Start date: Starts as soon as possible
· Benefits: Benefits are applicable as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement which includes dental plan, Health care plan, vision care benefits etc. You shall be entitled for Uniform allowance.

Languages: English
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year
Experience: Experience in Long-Term care considered an asset. Candidates with a PSW certification but no experience will be considered.

Job duties and Responsibilities:
Reports to: Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse.
Under the direction of the registered nursing staff, provides personal care and companionship to promote the comfort and safety of residents. Some typical activities include bathing, skin care, toileting, mouth care, dressing/undressing, grooming, shaving, nail and hair care. Provide physical assistance to residents as required such as weigh, lift, turn and position.
Under direction, performs selected procedures such as administering enemas and suppositories, collecting specimens such as urine, feces, or sputum and recording vital signs. Reports all findings to registered staff.
Take clients’ blood pressure, temperature and pulse, report or record fluid intake and output when necessary.
Assist with admission, discharge and transfer of residents.
Assists in the maintenance of a clean, safe environment. Some typical activities include making beds and maintain rooms, cleaning bedside units, collecting/bagging soiled linen for dispatch to laundry, sorting and storing clean linen, emptying bedpans and removal of unsafe objects etc.
Provide emotional/social support for residents.
Assists in providing restorative care for residents, assists with ambulation, nutritional needs and palliative care.
Transport residents in wheelchair or stretcher, when necessary.
Consults with and informs supervisor of unit activities, needs and problems related to resident care.
Answer call signals.
Supply and empty bed pans.
Assists with meal service to residents including menu selection, serve meals and provide feeding assistance as required.
Supervise residents’ exercise routines, set up and provide leisure activities for residents, accompany them on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to care and comfort of the residents.
Encourages participation in life enrichment programs by preparing residents for and assisting them to and from activities.
Observer or monitor residents with disabilities.
Administer in emergency situations, first aid to injured or ill individuals within the scope of competencies.
Administer bedside and personal care.
Maintain inventory of supplies.
Inform the manager when inventory or supplies are needed.
Assist with the set-up and maintenance and proper care of nursing equipment, traction equipment, cleaning or sterilizing equipment, maintaining and repairing equipment, and assembling, setting-up and operating job-related equipment.
Does not use or operate any equipment in a way that would endanger any worker, resident or visitor.
Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Launder clothing and linens.
Participates in resident care conferences and committees as required.
Documents resident care activities in accordance with the home’s policy using software such as PCC.
Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control.
Displays an attitude that is focused on working safely and ensuring that the work environment is safe and healthy.
Uses safe work practices.
Reports any actual or potential hazard to the immediate supervisor.
Uses or wears personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required.
Promptly report personal injury to supervisor and seeks first aid as needed.
Participates in fire safety activities and knows the facility fire and disaster plan.
Any other duties as assigned.
** residents may be seniors or persons with disabilities living in retirement/ long term care facility.
Credentials (Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses)
· Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
· CPR Certificate.
· First Aid certificate.
· Food Handler Certification.
· Nursing Aide Certificate OR Health Care Aide Certificate OR Personal Support Worker Certificate.
