Vulcan Compression Ltd. is a locally owned machine shop operating in and around the Peace Region. We specialize in the repair and maintenance of natural gas reciprocating compressors and their serviceable components.
We are looking for an experienced individual to join our team expansion as the business grows. Our best service practice comes from providing our customers with in-depth knowledge and consistency in all we do.
Summary: Processes both incoming and outgoing shipments, including verifying deliveries against paperwork, inspecting goods for damage or discrepancies, preparing and documenting outgoing shipments, and maintaining inventory records. Key duties include operating equipment like forklifts to load/unload, updating computerized or manual records, packing and labeling items, and communicating with vendors, carriers, and internal departments to resolve issues. Essential skills are strong attention to detail, organizational abilities, proficiency with inventory management software, and the ability to handle physical tasks, such as lifting heavy objects.
Detailed list of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs daily check to identify priority jobs and any changes in the shipping schedule – confirms shipping readiness of priority jobs.
Prepares orders for shipping daily and coordinates with Sales Administrators to ensure all packing lists/labels are completed and ready for attachment to the job; initiates packing and shipping of jobs.
Secures required documentation detailed on packing lists for each customer’s job from Sales Administration and includes shipment.
Contacts customers or carriers or couriers or Vulcan staff to pick up materials once approved for shipment – advises customers of shipping details and date.
Receives production materials, confirms it matches packing slips. Prepares ID tags for material and moves it into proper storage location. Provides Supplier’s material specifications to Production Supervisors.
Receives tooling, confirms it matches packing slip, advises Production Supervisors for assignment to shop equipment or storage.
Confirms with Production Supervisors when production material has arrived so it can be slotted for jobs.
Confirms all material ordered and on the packing, list has arrived and is defect free (no damages, correct amount, etc.); advises Parts Administrators and Production Supervisors of any defects or missing items immediately. Ensures any additional cost incurred for returning incorrect or defect materials is recorded for payment by the Supplier.
Receives MSDS sheets on all materials and provides to Production Supervisors.
Requests Purchase Orders from Production Supervisors for any external services required on job parts, i.e.: heat treatment, special coating, etc.
Receives vendor parts back and requests Production Supervisors to perform further quality inspections to confirm parts suitability.
Responds to Sales Administrators’ queries regarding shipping details.
Ensures proper and safe lifting equipment and lifting processes/rigging are deployed for all material receiving and shipment.
Performs regular safety inspections on forklift, picker trucks and overhead crane – records results.
Prepare shipping documents like bills of lading, customs forms, and invoices, both manually and by computer for local, regional, national and international shipments.
Provides Accounting with copies of all bills of lading and invoices received with materials daily; also provides Accounting with shipping documentation on orders shipped daily.
Participates in scheduled staff safety meetings and models safe work practices in daily work activities.
Procures any consumable materials required for the operation of the Shipping/Receiving Department.
Ensures that the shipping/receiving area and yard is kept clean, garbage bins are emptied, and garbage collection is called for as necessary.
Qualifications and experience:
Strong attention to detail.
Written and verbal communication skills.
Previous work experience as a warehouse worker is an asset
Education Requirements/Credentials:
Completion of secondary school
Warehousing and Distribution certificate program is an asset
