THE ROLE
As a member of the PeopleCare Team, the Personal Support Worker works under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse while providing personal care to residents in assigned areas in accordance with individual resident care plans.

· Location: PeopleCare Delhi, 173 Dalton Rd, Delhi, N4B 2E1, Ontario,
· Salary: this is a unionized position. Wage is paid as per the union agreement. The hourly rate for this position will be, at the start $27.35, after completing the probationary period $27.81, after completing a one-year service (1800 hours) and/or experience $28.23 and after completing two-years (3600 hours) service and/or experience $28.72. (Subject to any changes as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement). The government supplements three dollar ($3.00) permanent wage enhancement is included.
· Terms of employment: Permanent employment, Full time (75 hours per Bi-weekly).
Candidates must be available to work any assigned shift including Day, Early Morning, Morning, Evening, Night, Weekend, and Holidays. you shall be entitled to night-shift premium and/or weekend premium.
· Start date: Starts as soon as possible
· Benefits: Benefits are applicable as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement which includes dental plan, Health care plan, vision care benefits, etc. You shall be entitled for Uniform allowance. Protective equipment with the necessary equipment and protective clothing where necessary (e.g. gloves, long sleeved gowns, masks, goggles).

Languages: English
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year
Experience: Experience in Long-Term care setting considered an asset. Candidates with no experience but has successfully completed a Personal Support Worker program that meets requirements set by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities for an Ontario postsecondary institution or district school board will be considered.

Job duties and Responsibilities:
Reports to: Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse.
· Provides personal care and companionship to promote the comfort and safety of residents. Some typical activities include bathing, skin care, toileting, mouth care, dressing/undressing, grooming, shaving, nail and hair care.
· Provide physical assistance to residents as required such as weigh, lift, turn and position and observe or monitor residents with disabilities.
· Performs selected procedures such as administering enemas and suppositories, collecting specimens such as urine, feces, or sputum and recording vital signs and report all findings to registered staff.
· Assists with meal service to residents including menu selection, serve meals and provide feeding assistance as required.
· Assist with admission, discharge and transfer of residents.
· Encourages participation in life enrichment programs by preparing residents for and assisting them to and from activities.
· Assists in the maintenance of a clean, safe environment. Some typical activities include making beds and maintain rooms, cleaning bedside units, collecting/bagging soiled linen for dispatch to laundry, sorting and storing clean linen, emptying bedpans and removal of unsafe objects etc.
· Consults with and informs supervisor of unit activities, needs and problems related to resident care.
· Provide emotional/social support for residents.
· Assists in providing restorative care for residents, assists with ambulation, nutritional needs including feeding assistance, and palliative care.
· Assist in the maintenance and proper care of nursing equipment, cleaning or sterilizing equipment, and operating job-related equipment in a way not to endanger anyone.
· Administer in emergency situations, first aid to injured or ill individuals within the scope of competencies.
· Documents resident care activities in accordance with the home’s policy using software such as PCC.
· Transport residents in wheelchair or stretcher, when necessary.
· Answer call signals.
· Supply and empty bed pans.
· Supervise residents’ exercise routines, set up and provide leisure activities for residents, accompany them on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to care and comfort of the residents.
· Inform manager when inventory of supplies is needed.
· Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
· Compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
· Participates in resident care conferences and committees as required.
· Adheres to established peopleCare policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control.
· Reports any actual or potential hazard to the immediate supervisor.
· Any other duties as assigned.
** residents may be seniors or persons with disabilities living in retirement/ long term care facility.
Credentials (Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses):
· Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
· CPR Certificate.
· First Aid certificate.
· Food Handler Certification.
· Nursing Aide Certificate OR Health Care Aide Certificate OR Personal Support Worker Certificate.
Additional information
Security and safety: Immunization records, Vulnerable sector check, Tuberculosis test, Reference required.
Work conditions and physical capabilities: Work under pressure, Repetitive tasks, Physically demanding, Attention to detail, Standing for extended periods, Bending, crouching, kneeling. Ability to perform tasks that are necessary for the position, e.g. lifting/transferring clients.
