Job Overview
V HAWK TRUCKING is seeking reliable and organized long-haul truck drivers to join our team. The successful candidates will operate straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently on provincial, territorial, and national routes.
This position requires extended travel and overnight trips. Candidates must be comfortable working at various locations and as part of a two-person driving team or convoy when required.
Languages: English
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Previous experience is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
The long-haul truck driver will be responsible for:
- Operating and driving straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely.
- Planning and adjusting routes according to road, traffic, weather, and other changing conditions using GPS, computer equipment, and navigation devices to help improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
- Driving as part of a two-person team or convoy when required.
- Loading and unloading goods.
- Conducting pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and monitoring all aspects of the vehicle.
- Inspecting tires, lights, brakes, cold-storage systems, and other vehicle equipment to ensure proper operating condition.
- Performing brake adjustments as required.
- Communicating with central dispatch and receiving and relaying trip-related information.
- Maintaining accurate records of cargo, hours of service, distances travelled, and fuel consumption.
- Completing and maintaining required transportation documents, including bills of lading, driver logbooks, and vehicle inspection reports.
- Tarping loads when required and ensuring the safety and security of cargo throughout transportation.
Required Credentials
- Valid Class 1 or Class A Driver's Licence
- Air Brakes Endorsement
Documentation Knowledge
Candidates should be familiar with:
- Bills of lading
- Driver logbooks
- Pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspection reports
Trucking and Equipment Experience
The position may involve operating or transporting:
- Dry bulk
- Refrigerated loads
- Tractor-trailers
Transportation and Travel Requirements
- Long-haul driving
- National routes
- Provincial/territorial routes
- Willingness to travel for extended periods
- Willingness to travel overnight
Security and Safety Requirements
- Basic security clearance
- Driving record check (driver's abstract)
