Snow Valley Lodging, Canada’s first Tiny Home hotel, is seeking an experienced, professional and hands-on Hotel General Manager to lead our team in Fernie, British Columbia.
Our property offers a distinctive mix of traditional hotel rooms, kitchenettes, Tiny Homes and larger accommodation units. We are committed to providing welcoming, memorable and dependable experiences for every guest.
The successful candidate will plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the hotel’s operations. This position requires strong leadership, financial awareness, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple departments in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, supports employees, develops practical solutions and understands how every operational decision affects guests, employees and the business.
Duties and Responsibilities
Hotel Operations and Leadership
Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the daily operations of the hotel.
Develop, implement, review and improve operational policies, procedures and service standards.
Coordinate Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Reservations and administrative functions.
Maintain consistent service, cleanliness, safety and presentation standards throughout the property.
Establish operational priorities and ensure daily tasks are completed accurately and on time.
Lead regular departmental and management meetings.
Prepare operational reports and provide updates to ownership.
Identify operational risks, service gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Support hotel operations during emergencies, unexpected absences and periods of high occupancy.
Participate in an after-hours emergency on-call rotation.
Staffing and Employee Management
Recruit, interview, select and onboard employees.
Prepare work schedules based on occupancy, departures, arrivals and operational requirements.
Supervise, train, coach and evaluate employees.
Clearly communicate job duties, workplace expectations and service standards.
Monitor attendance, scheduling, payroll hours, overtime and departmental labour costs.
Conduct performance discussions and provide constructive feedback.
Recognize employee achievements and support professional development.
Address workplace concerns fairly, respectfully and promptly.
Promote teamwork and a positive, inclusive and professional workplace.
Ensure staffing practices comply with applicable employment and workplace requirements.
Financial Management and Revenue
Prepare operating budgets and financial forecasts.
Monitor hotel revenue, expenses, labour costs and departmental performance.
Review occupancy, average daily rate, revenue per available room and booking pace.
Establish and adjust room rates based on demand, seasonality, events, competitor activity and booking trends.
Manage rates and availability across direct-booking channels and online travel agencies.
Review daily, weekly and monthly revenue and performance reports.
Monitor payments, deposits, refunds, chargebacks and outstanding balances.
Reconcile online travel agency reservations, commissions and payouts.
Assist with accounts payable, payroll journal entries and financial documentation.
Review purchasing requirements and control operating expenses.
Protect company assets and maintain accurate financial and operational records.
Reservations, Front Desk and Guest Services
Oversee reservations, arrivals, departures, cancellations and guest account management.
Ensure reservation details, rates, taxes, payments and guest notes are accurate.
Provide support and direction to Front Desk employees.
Perform Front Desk duties when operationally required.
Respond to guest inquiries, requests, complaints and service concerns.
Investigate guest issues and determine appropriate resolutions.
Follow up on incidents, refunds, discounts and compensation when required.
Respond professionally to online guest reviews.
Monitor guest feedback and use it to improve service and operating procedures.
Build positive relationships with repeat guests, corporate clients, contractors and community partners.
Housekeeping and Property Standards
Oversee housekeeping operations and room-assignment priorities.
Complete regular guest-room and property inspections.
Ensure rooms are cleaned, supplied and released according to hotel standards.
Monitor linen, cleaning-product, guest-amenity and housekeeping supply levels.
Approve or coordinate orders for Housekeeping and Front Desk supplies.
Address cleanliness, damage, lost-and-found and room-readiness concerns.
Coordinate staffing and room turnover during high-departure periods.
Work with Housekeeping leadership to improve productivity, quality and employee safety.
Maintenance, Safety and Compliance
Arrange, schedule and oversee maintenance, repairs and property-improvement activities.
Coordinate with employees, contractors, vendors and service providers.
Obtain and review quotes for maintenance, equipment and property services.
Monitor outstanding maintenance items and confirm completed work.
Ensure emergency procedures, incident reporting and workplace safety practices are followed.
Support compliance with WorkSafeBC, WHMIS, fire-safety and applicable public-health requirements.
Maintain accurate records for inspections, incidents, maintenance and employee training.
Ensure contractors and employees follow appropriate safety requirements.
Respond to urgent property, guest and operational issues after hours when required.
Sales, Marketing and Business Development
Prepare and implement marketing, sales and revenue strategies.
Develop relationships with corporate clients, contractors, tourism partners and community organizations.
Prepare group, corporate and long-term accommodation proposals.
Negotiate rates and accommodation arrangements within approved guidelines.
Monitor local events, seasonal demand and market conditions.
Update website specials, packages and property information as required.
Coordinate social media, email marketing and promotional activities.
Promote direct bookings and guest-retention initiatives.
Identify new opportunities to increase occupancy and revenue.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain organized operational, employee, vendor and property records.
Prepare correspondence, reports, meeting minutes and internal communications.
Review invoices, statements, contracts and supplier documentation.
Coordinate with ownership, accounting support, government agencies and business partners.
Maintain the confidentiality of employee, guest and company information.
Complete additional management duties reasonably related to hotel operations.
Supervision
The Hotel General Manager will supervise approximately 7-12 employees working in Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance and operational support positions.
Education
Completion of secondary school is required.
A college diploma or university degree in hospitality management, hotel management, tourism, business administration or a related field is an asset.
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant management experience may be considered.
Experience
Minimum of three years of hospitality-management experience.
Previous experience managing hotel or accommodation operations is required.
Experience supervising employees in multiple departments is required.
Experience with reservations, revenue management, budgeting and guest-service recovery is required.
Experience with hotel property-management systems, online travel agencies and accounting or payroll systems is an asset.

Working Conditions
Fast-paced hotel environment.
Primarily day shifts, with availability required for some evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Regular movement throughout guest rooms, common areas and hotel grounds.
Occasional lifting or movement of supplies may be required.
Schedule may vary according to occupancy, events, emergencies and operational requirements.
